Weaving Workshop For Kids With Linda Coomer
Day 1: The Basic Weave: Starting with a sturdy base, the basic weave is done by weaving with rigid stakes or spokes, and weavers. The weavers wrap around the stakes in an over-one-under-one pattern. You can change the pattern by changing the number of over and under weavers, changing the colours or changing the materials used. Children will complete a basket while learning the basics of basket weaving.
Day 2: The Random Weave: One of the easiest ways for kids to get involved with basketry is to try random weaving a great, no-fail project. All you need are a bundle of long and flexible vines or strappy leaves. Because you needn’t worry about materials shrinking, tight weaving is not characteristic of this style, you can even gather and weave at the same time. The weaving technique consists simply of making a framework and filling in the spaces. Children will complete a random weave basket using a variety of harvested materials.
Dates: Wednesday 15 Thursday and 16 January. 9.00am to 12.00pm
Cost: $30 per day per person
Where: 1 Bayldon Road, Sawtell
Website: Sawtell Art Group
